Dentures are removable appliances that can replace missing teeth and help restore your smile. If you’ve lost all of your natural teeth, whether from gum disease, tooth decay or injury, replacing missing teeth will benefit your appearance and your health. That’s because dentures make it easier to eat and speak better than you could without teeth—things that people often take for granted.
When you lose all of your teeth, facial muscles can sag, making you look older. Dentures can help fill out the appearance of your face and profile. They can be made to closely resemble your natural teeth so that your appearance does not change much. Dentures may even improve the look of your smile.
Types of Dentures
New dentures may feel awkward for a few weeks until you become accustomed to them. The dentures may feel loose while the muscles of your cheek and tongue learn to keep them in place. It is not unusual to experience minor irritation or soreness. You may find that saliva flow temporarily increases. As your mouth becomes accustomed to the dentures, these problems should go away. Follow-up appointments are generally needed after a denture is inserted so the fit can be checked and adjusted.
This full removable denture is made and placed in your mouth after the remaining teeth are removed and tissues have healed, which may take several months.
This removable denture is inserted on the same day that the remaining teeth are removed. We will take measurements and make models of your jaw during a preliminary visit. You don’t have to be without teeth during the healing period, but may need to have the denture relined or remade after your jaw has healed.
This removable denture is made when you have some missing teeth and some remaining teeth in your mouth. We take impressions of your teeth and have our lab fabricate partial dentures made of either a metal framework or resin- based partial based on your needs. When we make the partial denture, we try to anticipate future concerns by designing the partial to be able to add teeth onto it if you lose other teeth in the future.
For patients who have dentures that feel “loose”, this removable full denture can be snapped into your mouth and stay there without moving around when you talk, laugh, eat or sneeze. First, implants are placed, then we can reline them to fit your existing denture or fabricate new dentures to enable you to have the most comfortable and retentive denture.
Too many people who have conventional dentures don’t wear them for the simple fact that they don’t stay in place. Dental implants offer a way to keep dentures in place and allow you to go about your daily life with confidence.
The use of dental implants to stabilize dentures has proven to be successful for many people. The number continues to grow as word spreads about the effectiveness and long-term durability of the treatment. In fact, it has been reported that dental implants have the highest success rate of any implanted surgical device.*
The Problem with Loose Dentures
Millions of people around the world are missing enough teeth to require the use of a denture. Many of them struggle to keep their dentures secure, particularly in the lower jaw. If you have this problem, you already know about the embarrassment of slipping dentures, not being able to eat the foods that you love and the ineffectiveness of denture adhesives. Fortunately, there is a way to make your denture work the way it was intended: stabilize it with dental implants.
Benefits of Denture Stabilization
- Restores proper chewing, allowing a better diet and improved health
- Improves speech and confidence
- Increases comfort with less irritation of gum tissue
- Ends the cost and inconvenience of denture adhesives
- Often can utilize your existing denture
- Minimally invasive procedure
About Implant-Supported Dentures (overdentures)
Titanium posts (implants) are inserted into the jaw, where the bone will heal around them. After the implants have healed, your denture is modified to snap onto the implant abutment. The denture will be secure but may be removed for cleaning with a simple “snap”.
What to Expect
Your dental professional will take x-rays and create a model of your existing teeth to determine implant position. Occasionally, a bone or gum tissue graft will be needed to create an adequate site for the dental implants.
Dental implants are placed into the bone in a relatively pain-free procedure. The bone and gums will be given time to heal before a denture is secured. Your current denture may be modified to fit over your new dental implants allowing the denture to function and the dental implants to heal.
Your final denture will be secured in one of two ways depending on your treatment. Your doctor will provide you a new overdenture that will “snap” onto your dental implants. If you have chosen a more advanced method, your new overdenture will be secured in place using screws that fit into the dental implants.
Are You a Candidate?
Dental implants can be placed in most adults. Certain uncontrolled medical conditions may decrease implant treatment effectiveness, so first discuss your full medical history with your doctor. Patient results may vary. Only a trained clinician can determine the best treatment plan. Please ask your doctor to explain the benefits and risks to see if dental implants are right for you at (727)-323-0377.

Before & After
I truly believe this dentist office is the best I have every been to. They have made me a believer in trusting I can be normal again. These new dentures fit so well.
I had dropped my denture on the tile floor. It chipped two of the teeth and could not wear them. Found Dr. Brayer on the internet and walked in Monday morning and had them back by 11 am that same day. The repair was excellent. Thanks for a great job...
I have been coming here for many years now. As soon as I walk in the door. I get greeted with the smiles of the staff here. We talk like we are family. It's very comforting to know that what ever your problem is concerning your teeth they will make sure you are happy before you leave. I have a full denture on top which hurt a lot. Came in and they knew exactly what was wrong. They went to work and of course nothing hurts anymore and I walked out happy!! I love this place and everyone in it. they are family to me!
Upon my first visit, Dr. Nguyen spent hours talking to me. He assured me my new dentures would fit perfectly. He fixed my old dentures well enough to use until I got my new ones. And they do!!! Many thanks to him and his staff for all they did for me!!! No glue — yay!!
I had dentures for over ten years that were never comfortable. I was afraid to bite into anything hard and never wanted to smile with my mouth open. Then, a friend of mine recommended Dr. Nguyen. I have never had dentures that fit so well, and look so natural as they do now! I can finally eat steak, apples, AND corn-on-the-cob comfortably. And I am smiling with my mouth open!
