Our 2020 started with an office cruise then Dr. Brayer's surprise rooftop birthday party, both in January. This year we played hard THEN worked hard. It was so worth it.
Dentures may look tough, but they’re actually vulnerable to damage when not properly cared for. If your dentures break, it’s important to know what you need to do get them repaired quickly and effectively.
Dentures break for a number of reasons. Dentures are made from acrylic or metal (or a combination of the two). They will wear out over time and need to be replaced every few years. Wearing dentures that don’t fit correctly is not only uncomfortable, it can also lead to damage of your dentures. Cleaning your dentures with harsh chemicals can also wear down the acrylic and make them susceptible to cracks or other damage.
Don’t panic. Call your dentist immediately. Explain to your dentist the type of damage: a crack, missing tooth or teeth, a chip in the acrylic, etc. Your dentist will determine what repairs are needed. While you may wish to try and repair your dentures at home, this is unadvisable. Poorly repaired dentures may not fit correctly, or become damaged again.
You’ll want to get your dentures repaired as soon as possible. Wearing damaged dentures can cause pain and, if left unresolved for too long, can even cause more severe oral problems. Wearing damaged dentures, or not wearing your dentures at all because of damage, can also affect your self-confidence. For your physical and mental well-being, it is strongly recommended to treat your broken or damaged dentures as a dental emergency.
You can reduce the risk of damaging your dentures by taking good care of them. Proper care will also keep your dentures clean and looking great. Here are a few tips for proper denture care:
These tips plus regular dental checkups will keep your dentures looking and feeling great.
