3D True Definition Digital Scanner

The new 3D True Definition Digital Scanner made by 3M ESPE has revolutionized the way we take impressions by eliminating the traditional impression material and replacing it with a 3D digital impression of the patient’s teeth.  By utilizing the newest technology, digital impressions are ensuring that we deliver a high quality dental restoration and much improved patient experience overall.

Benefits of the Digital Scanner

Improved Accuracy

The powerful “3D-in-motion” video technology allows us to capture and view a true replica of dental anatomy with great detail and visualization of crown margins with amazing precision to ensure the fit of crowns and bridges to be highly accurate for our patients for their long term dental success.  In comparison, the “traditional” impression-taking technique is more susceptible to distortion and bubbles.

Improved Productivity

When the impression is digitally scanned, it gets sent to the lab with a press of the button.  Digital files enable improved communication with our labs ensuring better, faster results.  Therefore, the delivery time of the crowns and bridges are greatly reduced (sometimes can be made in the same day or within a few days).  Additionally, digitally scanned impressions have a 99.8% rate of successful delivery the first time due to their extreme accuracy.

A Better Patient Experience

Many patients who are not comfortable with the traditional “gooey” impression materials will have a much better experience with the digital scanner since it only uses a small wand that is waved around each tooth for several seconds to capture the image digitally in 3D.  Then patients are given 3D glasses to view their teeth 3 dimensionally to give them a true understanding of their oral situation and an enhanced interactive experience.  In these ways, we are able to provide the best quality of care with predictable clinical outcomes for all of our patients.

Dexis Dental Digital Radiography

Digital radiography has been a necessary technology in our office to help more accurate diagnosis of dental problems during an examination.  Digital x-rays are a useful diagnostic tool when helping our dentists detect damage and disease not visible during a regular dental exam. It also benefits patients by reducing the risk of radiation exposure by up to 80% compared to the traditional x-rays.  We are proud to inform you that our office has had Dexis digital radiography for over 13 years since we believe that this technology helps to enable us to provide the highest quality of care for our patients.

How often X-rays should be taken depends on your present oral health, your age, your risk for disease, and any signs and symptoms of oral disease. For example, children may require digital X-rays more often than adults because their teeth and jaws are still developing and their teeth are more likely to be affected by tooth decay than those of adults. We will review your history, examine your mouth and then decide whether or not you need X-rays.

Nouvag Electric Handpiece

Electric handpieces provide the patient with a significantly more comfortable experience than air-powered drills. Because electric handpieces offer dentists increased power and precision, procedures can be significantly shorter. And the reduced noise generated by electric handpieces helps patients relax during their procedure.

The Nouvag Electric Handpiece is currently used in our office to provide a high quality experience and comfort when performing endodontic treatment on teeth.

Intraoral Camera

An intraoral camera is a very small camera that allows our practice to view clear, precise images of your mouth, teeth, and gums. This enables us to accurately make a diagnosis. With clear, defined, enlarged images, you see details that may be missed by standard mirror examinations. This can result in a faster diagnosis with less chair-time for you!

Intraoral cameras also enable us to save your images in our office computer to provide a permanent record of treatments. These treatments can be printed out for you, other specialists, and your lab or insurance companies.

Solea

Solea Laser – The New Rising Star in Efficient Dentistry

Our practice is excited to offer you a great new treatment in laser technology, the Solea laser. It is the first laser approved by the FDA to treat soft and hard tissue. As the only practice within a 250 mile radius of the St. Petersburg, Clearwater and Tampa Bay market, we are now able to address our patients’ needs more efficiently by getting rid of anesthesia in up to 90% of procedures.

What sets the Solea laser apart from past laser technologies?

At Creating Smiles Dental, we have been leading the field of laser dentistry in this area for some time. While we have used different types of lasers in the past, we are confident that the Solea laser will make your dental experience that much better. It uses state of the art technology that lets us work on both your gums and teeth at the same time with the same laser. Because it is computer controlled, it lets us work on your mouth from just about any angle and still get great results. The Solea laser decreases levels of pain and swelling because it is less invasive, which means quicker healing times. This laser is transforming patients experience in a positive way.

Patient Advantages

Almost all dental patients report that a fear of the drill and the sounds and vibrations it makes are what keeps them from coming in for regular checkups and appointments. The Solea laser makes this anxiety go away. Because this particular laser works great on not only your gums, but your teeth too, it allows us to decrease the use of drills during most procedures. Less drilling means less bleeding, anesthesia and sensitivity. This means more satisfied patients!

Years ago we had to send you to a specialist for gum problems, but with this new system we can handle it in house.  This added flexibility means when you come in for a cleaning or a routine checkup and we can handle just about any surprises on the spot. The Solea laser is also safe and effective on young patient’s primary teeth. Except on very rare occasions, there’s no need to make a follow up appointment to get that cavity taken care of. What may have previously required multiple visits can now be addressed in one quick appointment. This laser makes the dental patient’s life easier in so many ways, which is why we think you’ll be as excited about it as we are.

I had the laser treatment to complete 3 fillings- a new experience for me! It was painless and so great to leave the dentist without having a numb face! Dr. Phong was excellent in making sure to check on me throughout the process. I would recommend laser to anyone! What a wierd thing to say about a dentist experience, but it was AWESOME! I am SO grateful!

I got five fillings and used the laser. It was a lot better than normal fillings were because I didn't experience any pain like how you normally would with numbing shots. It was a better experience because I wasn't worried or uncomfortable.

Emma M.

The laser procedure was great. I didn't feel any pain and there were zero after effects. No numbing whatsoever was great. I felt just as good coming out of the office as I did going in. Hopefully I won't get any more cavities but if I did I would be very pleased to have the laser procedure done again!

The laser treatment when I had a filling removed and a new one put in was extremely good.  There was no pain; no “fat” tongue; no long time to recover. I am looking forward to experiencing this again if I ever need the filling removed and a new one installed. p.s. The doctor and the tech were constantly asking how I felt. Thanks!

Waterlase Dental Laser

What Is the Waterlase Dental Laser?

The Waterlase Dental Laser allows dentists to perform procedures on teeth, bone and gum tissue with less trauma than traditional methods using a patented technology combining laser energy and water spray, a process called Hydrophotonics.  The result is the ability of dentists to perform a wider range of dental procedures on teeth, gums and bone more comfortably.

What Does This Mean For You?

More Comfortable

Heat, vibration and pressure are the primary causes of pain associated with the use of the traditional dental drill. The  Waterlase uses a gentle combination of laser energy and water that works without ever touching your teeth, thus it does not generate heat, vibration or pressure.  The result is many procedures can be performed with fewer “shots”, less need for anesthesia, less use of the drill and fewer numb lips, therefore diminishing patient anxiety and providing a more relaxing dental experience.

More Convenient

Your dental visits will be faster since you will need less anesthesia, and possibly no injection. Not using anesthesia can allow dentists to perform procedures that once meant an additional appointment. Also, Waterlase dentists can perform procedures that used to be referred to a specialist, which could save more time for the patient.

Improved Filling Strength

The use of the Waterlase for cavity preparations can increase bond strength of tooth colored restorations, resulting in longer lasting fillings.

Faster Healing

Due to its conservative, gentle cutting action and coagulation capabilities, the Waterlase can perform many procedures on the gum tissues with little or no bleeding and less post operative swelling and pain.

What Can Waterlase Dentistry Do?

We may use the Waterlase to perform many hard and soft tissue procedures in the mouth:

Fillings

Waterlase can be used to remove decay and fill teeth usually without the need for needles, so patients are able to eat and talk and chew right after fillings are performed.

Remove Oral Growths

Waterlase can be used to remove growths or excess tissue in a patient’s mouth, including excess gum tissue over an unerupted tooth or fibromas.

Prevent Gum Recession

Muscle connections that can cause gums to recede can be taken care of with the Waterlase with little discomfort.

Treat Periodontal Disease

Waterlase can be used to remove debris and bacteria between patient’s teeth and gums that can cause bleeding gums, gum recession and even loos of teeth. Waterlase has been shown to reduce bacteria and may even stimulate gum tissue growth.

Relieves Cold Sore Discomfort

Waterlase may provide immediate relief from painful cold sores and fever blisters.

Increase Root Canal Success

Waterase may help disinfect root canals to remove more bacteria, resulting in a higher rate of long term success.

Many other procedures can also be performed using the Waterlase. An examination will help determine if the Waterlase is appropriate for your dental treatment.

Testimonials

Dr. Brayer used the Waterlase during my most recent visit and the new technology was great.  This new technology made getting my filling a comfortable experience. I’d suggest it to anyone!

Aubrey P.

I had a tooth extraction by Dr. Cindy Brayer. I had never had a laser extraction, but for me this was the best experience in a dental office.  No pain and today none also.  I am 67 years old and I was very pleased with the entire experience.

Alice M.

The laser was an awesome experience. There was no prying of the jaw or tooth.  Afterwards the bleeding stopped after 2 hours of the extraction.  No pain either.  Did not have to take any pain meds whatsoever.  Also there was no swelling.  All around I think it’s the best way for dentistry.

Jon W.

Completely painless, very clean and neat, no vibration or needles for novacaine, I LOVE IT!  I do not like being numb.  This eliminates that.

David S.

Very easy.  Dr. Brayer made sure there was no pain.  At the end, couldn’t even tell I had new fillings put in.  No numbing of jaw and face.

Kimberly W.

I think it is a wonderful discovery. I had absolutely no pain or discomfort.
