Creating Smiles Dental, serving in the community
Our team was represented again at the annual Back To School Care Fair put on by the Junior League of St. Petersburg at the Enoch Davis Center.
The flyer for the event announced some of the free services that were provided by local supporters. All Children’s Hospital provided free back to school physicals. Eye exams were performed as well. A volunteer dentist and volunteer dental hygienists from the Pinellas County Dental Hygienists’ Association, including our own Tiffany, provided free dental screenings and fluoride treatments if parents gave consent. Parents were extremely appreciative for this easy access to information and care. The dental volunteers visually screened for cavities, the need to be further evaluated for sealants, wisdom teeth issues, gum health, and also gave some oral hygiene instruction. All of the hygienists wished they could have more time with these deserving well behaved children, to teach more about brushing, flossing, oral health, diet, and other habits. Fluoride was placed on the teeth and information on where the children could be treated by local dentists was provided. The children and families could participate further in the parking lot where some were given free bike helmets at the safety expo. The prize for all of the deserving school aged children was the backpack! The back packs were furnished with school supplies. This is an extremely worthy cause that the Junior League of St. Petersburg organizes each year and we are happy to be a part of it again. Volunteers were provided with lunch form PDQ and got delicious healthy Kind bars with stickers from the Junior League of St. Petersburg thanking us for being Kind and volunteering. What a rewarding day all around.
