St. Petersburg Dentist Shares Tips For Keeping Your Teeth Extremely Healthy

Dr. Cindy N. Brayer – St Petersburg Dentist

Hi! My name is Dr. Cindy N. Brayer, and my patients must understand the importance of keeping their teeth healthy. Sometimes, I hear patients say that their busy lifestyle keeps them from making their appointments for regular checkups, and business is often used as an excuse for the neglect of their dental care. Plaque buildup, bacteria, and painful dental issues are the result of poor dental care. Today, I will share tips to help you keep your teeth beautiful and healthy.

It only takes a few minutes a day to properly care for your teeth and prevent issues resulting from bacteria, plaque, and cavities. You can eliminate many issues that bring patients in to see you by simply brushing your teeth at least twice daily. A little attention to caring for your teeth can go a long way.

As a St. Petersburg dentist, I enjoy helping patients learn how to properly brush their teeth, which is an essential step to keeping them healthy. Some people brush just the front of their teeth, but all your teeth need attention, love, and care.

When you brush your teeth, using a soft bristle toothbrush is best. Many patients believe a firmer brush eliminates more bacteria and plaque, but it doesn’t. You could cause more harm than good if you brush with a stiff brush or brush too harshly on your gums. Choosing the right toothbrush would also make your brushing time more enjoyable. Proper brushing requires that your strokes move away from your gums and not towards them. Three minutes is ample time for brushing your teeth. This is the length of an average song, so why not power up your iPod in the morning and listen to your favorite song while brushing along?

It is important to change your toothbrush regularly. If you have sensitive teeth or gums, try using a special toothpaste formulated for these issues. Flossing is another important step in your oral care. Brushing alone is not enough to clean your teeth properly. Flossing will help you remove food particles that build up in hard-to-reach places, especially between your teeth, where toothbrush bristles are not able to reach. Also, choosing a mouthwash you like will add to a clean and fresh mouth.

In addition to the steps you can take at home, you must visit your St. Petersburg Dentist (Dr. Cindy N. Brayer) for the proper care and cleaning needed to maintain your healthy smile. Having your teeth cleaned professionally by a dentist is recommended in addition to brushing and flossing. Make it a point to visit Dr. Brayer’s office at least twice yearly to keep your smile beautiful and bright.
